ALPHARETTA, August 31 (Hypepotamus) - The SEC, FINRA, and the CFTC all have their own requirements that regulated firms must capture, store, and be able to retrieve client communications for several years. Mess up, and firms can be slapped with hefty fines that make headlines across the financial world. Historically, that has meant employees at banks,  broker-dealers, or registered investment advisors have had to deal with tedious manual monitoring processes or have issued employees a second phone dedicated to work.

And in 2026…who actually wants to carry around two phones all day?

Larry Shumbres, a FinTech entrepreneur in the Metro Atlanta area, has built a solution that customers and investors alike have taken note of.

How Archive Intel Work

The Alpharetta, Georgia-based startup got off the ground in 2024 and went from “zero to 100 quickly, Shumbres told Hypepotamus. The platform allows firms to capture and store important client communications, whether they happen through digital spaces like texts, emails, Slack, or LinkedIn messages, without the need for different phone numbers or different devices. This ensures firms and individual employees stay compliant with the robust monitoring requirements.

On the back end, firms get free storage up to 1TB and unlimited, fee-free exports of their own records

The platform also provides important contextual AI alerts. Rather than flagging every message that contains a risky-sounding keyword, Archive Intel's AI is built to evaluate context. The example on its website is about telling the difference between an advisor telling a client "I guarantee you'll see 12% returns by year end" (a flagged performance guarantee) and telling them "I guarantee the Hawks make a finals run this year" (not flagged). The company says that its contextual approach cuts false positives by 99% and manual compliance work by 95%, with every AI-surfaced item still routed to a human reviewer for a final call.

A full compliance suite inside Archive Intel is set to launch this fall.

Shumbres said one of the more frequent requests from clients lately has been the ability to archive AI chat logs, as LLMs and AI tools become part of advisors' day-to-day workflow.

That is particularly important as new potential regulation is on the horizon.

“There are a lot of big what ifs coming over the next three to six months that, if passed, could affect how we do business and what we have to capture and archive for our clients,” he added.

After exiting Totum, Shumbres said he went back to former clients and asked about the compliance tools they were using for electronic communications archiving, trade monitoring, AI reviews, and attestations. Two legacy products kept coming up. Neither, he kept hearing was easy to use.

"We took the old electronic communications archiving compliance for SEC, FINRA, CFTC, and state-registered financial institutions, and made that a lot easier and better," Shumbres said.
