Atlanta’s Reditus Is Ready to Launch Its Reusable Vehicle Into Space This Fall

ATLANTA, July 13 (Hypepotamus) - Late last year, Atlanta-based and Create-X alumni company Reditus Space came out of stealth and closed its $7.1 million seed round to fuel its Microgravity-as-a-service platform.

Now, the startup — under the leadership of CEO Stef Crum — is one step closer to seeing its technology launch into space. This week, Reditus Space announced it has completed the construction of ENOS, its 200-kilogram free-flying reusable reentry vehicle.

Atlanta Startup Ready For Space

ENOS is now en route from Atlanta to California, where it will prepare for its launch later this fall. It will then operate on orbit for two months before reentering Earth’s atmosphere and landing back off the coast of Florida. While orbiting the Earth, ENOS will carry payloads for early-stage companies that need to experiment in microgravity.

That might include pharmaceutical and semiconductor companies.

The important part of what Reditus Space is building is the fact that ENOS is designed to be recovered and reused after a launch, allowing it to be used for multiple missions.

Why is this important? The International Space Station (ISS) will wind down operation after 2030, meaning that more payload operators will need to find free-flying reentry vehicles to make their launches and science possible, as the The space publication Payload explained

The Southeast’s Space Economy

On top of the Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral, the Southeast has grown to be a hub of Space technology companies.

Other industry giants with a presence in the region include Lockheed Martin, Gulfstream Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney, and Northrop Grumman.
