Let’s Unify the “Startup” Community

startup-signWith the Super Bowl happening this weekend, I’ve been daydreaming of what could’ve been for the Falcons. But these daydreams get interrupted with a different thought  - just imagine showing up to an Atlanta Falcons game only to see people wearing all kinds of spelling variations:

  • Atlanta Fal-cons
  • Atlanta FalCons
  • Atlanta Falcons
  • Atlanta Fal Cons

Maybe it’s my editing background, but I can’t keep this to myself anymore. It’s time we as a community need to rally together and unite behind a small, but important detail.

We can do this, Atlanta. We can use “startup” and discard “start-up”, “StartUp”, and “start up” so we can join the legion of people and organizations who’ve assembled under this banner: Startup Weekend, Startup America, Startup America Partnership, Startup Bus, SXSW Startup Village, 500 Startups, Startup Communities by Brad Feld, and many more.

I pledge to use the spelling “startup” and hope you will, too. Who’s ready to sign the “startup” spelling pact, too? Leave a comment to show your support!
