Hack the Hype This Saturday

Welcome areaA number of people have been asking how they could help Hypepotamus. So we’re holding a collaborative, barn raising-style hackathon, where we all work to make the Hype a better space. The only thing we’re providing is some food and drink. The rest is up to the ecosystem.

Our primary challenge is to create a better Welcome/Check-in experience for first-time visitors. A secondary challenge is setting up a soldering bench, 3-D printer, and a Hackers Closet, where we’ll store baskets of all type of great hardware for anyone to play around with.

What other challenges and ideas do you have? Leave a comment and let’s get the ideation started.

Doors open at 12 noon on Saturday and we’ll be running hard until at least 7pm. Bring what you can – tools, gadgets, laptop, etc. Register here.

I’ll be there! If anyone has any fun stuff to contribute to the hacker’s closet please bring it with you on Saturday. All chips, boards, motors, sensors, gadgets are welcome! If you don’t have a use for it someone here might.

viaCycle will be bringing a bunch of Arduino equipment, some wireless hardware, and circuit prototyping supplies. We can also supply some tools. The Welcome experience challenge is an interesting one, and we’d like to do some experimentation with physical authentication and/or sensors to get the job done. If anyone wants to propose solutions or teams so we can get started right away on Sat, let us know.
