Atlanta Hoops Hackathon
Want to hack the 2013 Men’s Final Four in Atlanta to make it the best one yet? You’re invited to join some of the city’s best coders, designers, students, entrepreneurs, and makers to take part in this two-day hackathon.
This will be the first hackathon in Atlanta to integrate digital and mobile media with rapid prototype manufacturing.
Tip off will be at 5:30pm on Friday, March 15, and the final buzzer will sound at 8:00pm on Saturday, March 16. You can choose from the three main challenges:
- Text the Masses: Create a real-time mobile-centric coordination system for the thousands of volunteers helping out.
- Fill Philips: Develop online and offline ways to drive attendance for the Division II & III Championships at Philips Arena
- Kevin Bacon Laynard: Turner is hosting a technology conference during the Final Four weekend and asked “What if our lanyards buzzed when you were near someone you knew or had a LinkedIn connection to?” Hence the name and the challenge.
Or bring your own ideas to make the big weekend even better. We’ll be handing out a number of prizes for the best integration of online and offline creations.

About the Two Venues
Opening and Closing Receptions: Hypepotamus
Hypepotamus is more than a physical space. It’s a groundswell of people who believe the next great wave of Atlanta companies will come from bringing coders, designers, entrepreneurs, and students together to create massive awareness, diverse collaborations, and peer-to-peer education.
Work Session: MIC Makers Space
Starting on Friday at 8pm and running through Saturday at 5pm, everyone will be at MIC Makers Space, which is the newest maker space in Atlanta combining rapid prototype manufacturing, industrial fabrication, and co-working. You and your team will get a basic budget to apply towards the amazing assortment of machines, so you can create something physical to pair with your digital/mobile technology.
Need whiteboards, WiFi, and meeting space? 3-D printer? Powder printer? Laser cutter? Vinyl printer? Photography studio? Yes to all of the above.
